About
Gordon Moore is a multi-media artist based in Brooklyn, NYC. One of many artists in his family, Gordon started drawing and painting at a young age. A childhood of fishing, hunting, sailing and surfing on Martha’s Vineyard, where Gordon is from, instilled in him a deep appreciation for nature.
Gordon’s affinity for both academic and artistic pursuits led him to a five-year Dual-Degree program offered by Brown University and the Rhode Island School of Design, allowing him the opportunity to hone both fields. After several years of experimenting, Gordon became focused fully on his creative practice, immersed in departments like furniture design, filmmaking, animation, painting, and, later on, ceramics. His thesis work, a 9-minute experimental animation titled “Rain Pot,” utilizes ceramics to explore the potential for physical objects to live in digital spaces.
After earning a BA in the History of Art and Architecture from Brown and a BFA in Animation from RISD, Gordon returned home in 2020 to Martha’s Vineyard to begin his studio practice. Here, he worked as a studio assistant for Micah Thanhauser of Merry Farm Pottery in exchange for space to create his own work until relocating to Brooklyn, NY in 2022.
In Brooklyn, Gordon works in production for Danny Kaplan Studio alongside his independent studio practice.
Though his work constantly shifts between digital and physical spaces, Gordon views himself primarily as an object-maker, appreciating the humility of an object of use and routine.
